* Beat butter and shortening in a large bowl at medium speed of an electric mixer; gradually add sugar and salt, beating well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. * Sift together flour and baking powder. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix just until blended after each addition. Stir in lemon extract. * Pour batter into a greased and floured 10 - inch tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Cool in pan on wire rack 10 -15 minutes; remove from pan and let cool completely on wire rack. Drizzle glaze over, if desired.

To make the glaze, combine all ingredients using enough confectioner's
sugar to make desired consistency. Stir well.
